Since making their name in the street art scene of São Paulo in the late 1980s, Brazilian artist duo and brothers OSGEMEOS (Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo) have created murals and exhibited worldwide, from New York to Los Angeles, Lisbon, London and Berlin. Their signature aesthetic, which features elements of surrealism drawn from Brazilian folklore, exuberant colors, and yellow characters, appears across their body of work, including floor-to-ceiling paintings, sculptures and installations. ArtAsiaPacific sat down with OSGEMEOS—which translates from Portuguese as “the twins”—while they were in Hong Kong for their first solo show in the city, at Lehmann Maupin, to discuss musical inspiration, their childhood in São Paulo and the importance of art as escapism.
