Interview with Jeffrey Shaw

Multimedia Jul 2020

Since the mid-1960s, Jeffrey Shaw has pursued new forms of interactive experience in art and cinema, creating experimental installations that utilize cutting-edge technologies. His recent solo exhibition at Hong Kong’s Osage Art Foundation, “WYSIWYG,” offered a unique opportunity for the artist to revisit more than 50 years of his own creative output, updating older works and restaging past projects. After joining Shaw on a tour of “WYSIWYG”—a title taken from the word-processing acronym for “what you see is what you get”—ArtAsiaPacific sat down with the artist to discuss his early involvement with the 1960s European avant-garde, the influence of ideas of “play,” and the possibilities he sees in forms of expanded cinema.
