The second edition of the Lahore Biennale, curated by the Sharjah Art Foundation director Hoor Al Qasimi, is titled “between the sun and the moon.” A press release dated January 6 revealed the full list of over 70 international participating artists who will present works that highlight the “cultural dialogues between South and West Asia and the social realities across the Global South.” The Biennale aims to examine humanity’s increasingly strained relationship with the environment, and the resulting social dissonances brought about by climate changes through exploring traditional notions of the self and cosmological underpinnings which allude to South Asia’s strong astronomical traditions.

Expanding on the inaugural edition in 2018 which included 50 artists, LB02 will also present more than 20 new commissions featuring Pakistani and international artists, including, among others, multi-disciplinary artist Alia Farid who will present a film examining effects of the partition of the Indian subcontinent, photographer and filmmaker Reem Falaknaz whose installation references cultural links between Pakistan and the UAE, and artist and curator Almagul Menlibayeva whose immersive installation will bring to life the works of 14th-century Timurid ruler and astronomer Sultan Ulugh Beg.
