The leading art fair for independent international artists, Art Next Expo, will return to Hong Kong from November 1 to 4. Featuring more than 100 artists around the world, the third edition of Art Next Expo will take place in the art and design complex PMQ, located in the Soho area of Central.

With the theme of “Who’s Next?” Art Next Expo is organized into three sections: the International Artist series, Diversity series, and Special Project: Next+ series.

The 62 global artists featured in the International Artist series will be competing for Art Next International Artist Awards by showcasing their best works. Among the entrants into this series will be the latest street art by New-York based Mr. LIKEY; paintings of goldfish from Malaysian artist Cristjen Lai; photos of the LGBTQ+ movement in Hong Kong by Kasper Forest; and abstract oil-on-canvas paintings by Liu Cheng Mui.

The judges of the Art Next International Artist Awards include the renowned Beijing-based artist Song Dong; Louis Nixon, Tang Hoi Chiu, and John Aitken, professors from the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University; Adriana Alvarez-Nichol, founder of Puerta Roja Gallery; artist Chung Tai Fu; curator Yan Shanchun; and collector Cecilia Cheung. The winner of the Taipei Artist Village Artist Award will be able to join the three-month artist-in-residence program at Taipei Artist Village at Treasure Hill.

The Diversity series will present special booths of various themes. On display will be gold-leaf works by Kyoto master Hiroto Rakusho; mineral pigment paintings; textile art by Cheongsam Connect; and contemporary literati paintings by famous columnist Chip Tsao (To Kit).

To highlight young talents, the Special Project: Next+ series will feature eight print artists from art institutes in mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, while students from the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong, will participate in “Next Contemp.” Spotlighting artists of all ages, artworks from Diocesan Boys’ School will also take up a corner, and works by the 11-year-old Eugene Lau, the youngest artist represented at the fair, will be featured in “Next All Star.” For art book fans, Thebookshop, which will open in November 2019 to coincide with the re-opening of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, will bring selected art books to the Expo.
